License of the code

Filmaster code is licensed under Affero General Public License, version 3 license (AGPLv3) meaning that Filmaster is free software and you can use it, modify it and redistribute it as long as you publish all your changes on the same AGPLv3 license for others to reuse.

What is licensed under AGPLv3?

Basically all the Python files used in the application and accessible in our Mercucial repository that have a license disclaimer at the top of the file.

What is restricted?

The following items are not licensed under AGPLv3 and normal copyright applies to them:

  • Filmaster's cascading style sheet (CSS) file
  • All graphical files used on Filmaster.com
  • Design (meaning: the user interface) of the application as a whole
  • Any outside modules/libraries that we are using and that are not licensed on AGPLv3 (they are usually licensed under the BSD license) and that we embed in our code

Would you consider relicensing parts of your code?

Sure, if you would like to use some module of our code in your project and you don't like the AGPLv3 license, just contact us at filmaster@filmaster.com. We can consider dual-licensing some modules on LGPL or BSD license. We can also sell a commercial license for a company that would like to develop a Filmaster fork on their own.
